There are more sophisticated versions but I just need to check cable connections. When you go out onsite and need to check your connections - this is a handy tool to have. I don't use it much but it's invaluable when I need it.
The included carrying case keeps everything together, and its light weight makes it a welcome addition to nearly any shoestring budget IT kit. I would highly recommend this tester to anyone who is on a budget but needs a reliable tester to check network cables. I did not use the tone generator function, but it worked great with the included remote for identifying the cables.
Also was a reasonable deal. Nice packaging to neatly keep everything together. Very happy with the purchase. The TRENDware Cable Tester works as advertised. Recommended. The "auto" mechanism to successively test the various wires works well. It supports standard ethernet and coaxial (comes with adapter plugs). The tone generator is very effective in figuring out which cable to connect - once you get to other end of it somewhere else in the house (this save you from having to switch to another tone generator).
And it works as advertised. I'm very pleased with this tester. Note that I've only used it to test Cat5/6 cables. I'm glad to own it. It is sturdy. It is easy to use.
I would suggest if you need to check out the system connections alone or with a patner this is the tool to use. We were able to use existing wiring and not start for scratch. The previous reviews really helped in the decision to purchase this item. This product was very helpful. Thanks for a gerat product at a great price. This tool saved us time and money. It made checking out an existing network very easy. We were able to check out existing connectins as well as new ones.
